Can a traveler enter China from Vietnam or Laos via land crossing?

I would like to enter China via Hanoi or from Laos, tour several cities in China including Kunming, Chengdu, Guilin and exit from Hong Kong. Is entry in to China allowed via land crossing? Do I need a visa for Hong Kong? I believe one is not required according to information I've read on this site.

I would also prefer a 2 year multiple entry visa into China as I plan to make at least one or two more visits within that time. Am I able to choose a two year multiple re-entry visa? Thanks for your kind reply

Mr. Johnnash, Thanks for your reply but my question was can I cross the border from Laos into China at Boten, Laos / Mohan, China if I already have a Chinese tourist visa. I'm not Chinese, don't own property in China. Just a tourist. Thanks in advance. :)

I understand I do not need a visa for Hong Kong and I find I'm not eligible for a two year multiple re-entry visa

If you are U.S. citizen, you don't need a visa for Hong Kong for up to 90 days. It is allowed for aliens to enter China via land crossing.

If your spouse or child are not Chinese, or you don't have real estate in China, you can't apply for 2 years multiple entry visa. You can try to apply for 1 year multiple entry visa.
