How can book train tickets from Shanghai to Beijing and back to Hangzhou?

Hi, I will be in traveling to Shanghai for 11 days however my destination flight will be at Hangzhou airport at around midnight. May I ask at such late hours is there any other way to travel to Shanghai? Also I’m only planning to spend 3 days in Shanghai after that thinking of traveling to Beijing by bullet train. Just wondering will the ticket for Bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing be sold out? Lastly if I’m to travel back from Beijing to Hangzhou by bullet train do I have to buy the return ticket in advance? Is it possible that when I'm buying the ticket from Shanghai to Beijing, I also buy the return bullet train ticket from Beijing to Hangzhou?

It is very hard for people to buy the train tickets in China, especially the foreigners. In such a populous country, railway is the most common transportation method and the train tickets are always under great demand. So, I suggest you book the train tickets as early as possible, and ask a booking agent for help because of the language barrier from train station.

Since train tickets in China are always hard to get, you would better buy them in advance. You could purchase the bullet train tickets for Beijing-Hangzhou trip at Shanghai train station. From Hangzhou to Shanghai, you could take a taxi to Hangzhou south station first, where several trains are running to Shanghai around midnight.
