British passport holding wishing to get a Chinese visa in Singapore

I am British. Can I apply for a Chinese visa in Singapore? What documents do I need? (I only have a single flight booked to China because I will convert my tourist visa into a business visa once I am there. Is that a problem:)
Also, I tried to book a time-slot on the website for getting the visa, but it said there were no slots available this month... Can I just walk into the CVASC without an appointment? (I will be going at the end of August)

If you want to apply for a Chinese visa in Singapore, you have to show a document that prove your status in Singapore, such as PR, WP, EP, STP, DP. Temporary visitors to Singapore should apply for a Chinese visa in their own country. You can walk into the CVASC without an appointment to submit visa application.

First of all, what are: PR, WP, EP, STP, DP? Without one of these, I cannot get a Chinese visa in Singapore? I have no chance to return home to get a visa. So, can I get the visa in Hong Kong instead?

PR refers to Permanent Residence Permit,
WP refers to Work Pass,
EP refers Employment Pass,
STP refers to Secure Trade Partnership,
DP refers to Dependant Pass

They all the document which allow aliens to reside in Singapore for a long time.

You can first try to get a China visa in Singapore, if the application is denied, you can go to Hong Kong to get a visa. It is easy for UK citizen to get a China visa in Hong Kong.
