About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

If I'm going to China to volunteer, is that something I should indicate on my China visa application

if I want to stay longer than 30 days. If so, should I state it in the purpose of visit (other-volunteer) or in the additional comments?

For volunteer to China, you need a business visa. An invitation letter from China is required in this case, and in this letter, your purpose of visit, intend stay in China and other personal information are included. Anyway, you can write your purpose of visit to the application form.
