Chinese pair of leather shadow puppets....I think that is what they are!

I have a pair of figures that appear to be Chinese leather sillouettes or shadow puppets. They are each in a glass display box and are in perfect condition. The material appears to be colored leather,mostly red,green,yellow and black. Each figure is secured onto the backing by a white thread. Could these possibly be real pieces or are there reproductions available for purchase? Any possible value in these unique pieces? Thank you for your time. I have pictures that can be emailed.
