We intend to visit our daughter and son in law who are residing in Yokohama Japan. We have acquired visit visa for Japan, and are plan to visit Japan in April 2011. My sister in law who is a retired Professor from education department and holds an official passport, is also accompanying us. We wish to visit Beijing for 3 or 4 days on way to Japan. We really do not have much of time left for arranging a sponsorship or to ask for invitation from China. is it possible that we book with a hotel in Beijing and get this transit visa for 4 days?

You can try to get a transit visa for 4 days, the round-trip flight tickets and Japanese visit visa are required. Generally speaking, the transit visa permits 1 - 10 days stay duration per entry.
