The bus you take at Mutianyu Great Wall or Huairou? There is no direct bus between Dongzhimen and Mutianyu now, as I know they are open operating in peak season. So, you should find if there is Dongzhimen 东直门written on the bus. The 916, 918 bus routes do leave from Dongzhimen and back there. Some branch lines do not.
