The major route of the silk road starts from Xian, via Tianshui, Lanzhou, Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiuquan, Jiayuguan, Dunhuang and the Hexi Corridor, and then spread all over Xinjiang. The three major cities should be Xian, Lanzhou and Dunhuang. Buddhism was the main religion on the silk road.
