About:Silk Road

I am planning to travel on Silk Road end of April. I am slightly skeptical of the safety on the road and how easy or hard it is. What is the best road to take and any one who can guide me on the safety and difficulty level of the same?

So far i have been recommended Dunhuang, Turpan and Urumuqi.
