Hi, I'm coming to China/Hong Kong for approximately 1 month in September. I'm a well-travelled budget backpacker in my early 20s. I've done a lot of research; just wondering if my itinerary makes sense, or if there is a more efficient route I can take.
Toronto --> Beijing (4 days)
-->overnight train to Shanghai (stay 4 days)
-->train to Hangzhou (1 day: see West Lake)
-->bus to Huangshan (to Tangkou, then take bus to mountain, then take cable car up, and check into hostel, then see eastern side of mountain)
-->2nd day on Huangshan: see western side, then go back down and spend the night in Tangkou
-->bus back to Huangshan, taxi to Huangshan airport, fly to Shanghai, fly to Zhangjiajie, taxi into city center, spend 1 night
-->sightsee scenic area (2 days)
-->fly to Guangzhou, train to Hong Kong (stay 4 days & day trip to Macau)
-->train to Guangzhou, then Nanning, to Hanoi
Questions:
1)Am I spending enough time in each place? Or too many days maybe in Beijing or Shanghai? I like to see more remote areas but can't spend too much time travelling.
2)Is it feasible to go from Hangzhou to Huangshan and still hike a bit in the same day?
3)How much are current costs for Huangshan?
-bus from Huangshan to Tangkou (and how long)
-roundtrip shuttle from Tangkou to cable car
-roundtrip cable car
-admission to Huangshan (also, if I stay the night on the summit, do I have to pay for re-entrance the next day?)
4)Are there different cable cars for different areas of the mountain? Which one would you suggets? I read Yuping.
5)What is the best way to get from the scenic area to Huangshan airport?
6)When I go up the mountain, do I take my pack with me? If not, where can I leave it?
7)What is the best itinerary for Zhangjiajie, to stay on the mountain or not? And the costs including entrance fee, transportation, accomodation, etc?
Thanks!
P.S. I don't like to do tours or hire tour guides unless it's very cheap so I will be doing the hikes on my own.
