About:Chinese Embassy in New Zealand

I am travelling to China on business according to an IATA website timatic used by Air NZ my passport only needs to be valid until the intended length of stay but the nz embassy site say I must have 6 months validity beyond intended length of stay?! The NZ consulate site does not seem very up to date though does anyone know if this has changed and what the current requirement is?!
