About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Can you please help me? I have done a bit of research, and have been finding different types of answers. I am teaching English fulltime in Shandong province and my Working Permit expires late June 2011. My Residence Permit expires on 2nd July 2011. My Foreign Expert Certificate expires on 2nd July 2011, also. I have decided not to renew my 1 year contract with my current school, only because I don't want to work on Sundays anymore. I am planning to move to Guangdong province to get a Monday to Friday position.

I don't want to upset my current employers by finishing my job earlier with them, before the end of the contract, but I'm a bit concerned about securing/obtaining employment in the next province. With all the required formalities and regulations, is it possible for my new school to extend my residence permit while I'm still working for my current school? I may start with the next school in September 2011, so will I be able to just 'live' (and not work) in China, from between the end of my current contract, right up until when I start my new job in September 2011? I get along well with my current employers but I think they will not be so pleased when they find out that I won't be signing a new contract with them. Thank you.

It is impossible for your new school to extend your residence permit while you are still working for you current school. Your Work Permit expires late June 2011, your Residence Permit and Foreign Expert Certificate expires on 2nd July 2011. Your new employer can start to apply for the work permit and Foreign Expert Certificate for you in late June or early July. You can't stay in China from July 2 to early September in China. You have to apply for work visa outside of Mainland China, then go to Guangdong and apply for residence permit within 30 days after entry.
