Good day. I'am planning to visit Xiamen, China because i would like to locate my relatives there. Our greatgrandfather's name is Lim Tic Ching, and our grandfather's name is Lim Eng Son. What first step we will do in finding our relatives?

Hi, the first thing you should do is put the name if your greatgrandfather and your grandfather into Chinese, I guess you family name should be “林” in Chinese, there should be some society of this family name in Fujian, and also, the most important, try to find out where your ancesters have lived in Fujiang Province, better as specific as the village name, thus would make it much easier to find your relatives.

I just returned from Xiamen city. It is a big metropolis now. There is a furious pace of construction going on. High rise buildings, and hotels. Busy avenues and streets crowded with cars, buses, taxis, trucks, and pedestrians. However, Xiamen City is surprisingly clean and safe. Mandarin is spoken in hotels, banks, airport and most places due to the influx of workers from other provinces. It would be tough to locate your relatives because people moved around - to where jobs are. Since you are from the Philippines, it would be worthwhile to contact the Lim Family Association there if they keep some records.
