I am going to Shanghai late October and thinking of travelling to Nanjing. How much is the bullet train from Shanghai to Nanjing? Where is the station in Shanghai? Can we buy the tickets online?

The bullet train ticket price is CNY93-112 per each from Shanghai to Nanjing. Better take train at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, since trains there are all bullet trains.

To take the bullet train from the main Shanghai Railway Station, one-way trip from Shanghai to Nanjing cost 146rmb, first class 233rmb, it is a fast, non-stop 75 min ride.  It's very busy, so best to buy it a day or two ahead of time.  Some hotel concierge sell train tickets for a 30rmb service charge (Intercontinental Puxi, across the street from train station).
