About:China Visa Application in USA

If i am in china and go to hong kong to extend my l visa do I have to stay there till it is complete are can I renter and wait on the paper work? I have held a residence here before the l visa

You have to stay in Hk till you get a new L visa, then you can reenter Mainland China.
