About:Who built the Great Wall of China?

When was the great wall UNofficialy named as China's symbol/emblem???

It is the symbol of national unity. Although the walls began to build since Warring State period, I think its symbolic meaning had came into being in Qin Dyansty when Qin united the other 6 nations and combined the walls, call it Great Wall.
