Hello,

Can I buy round-trip train tickets (Shanghai-Beijing-Shanghai) from the Shanghai Railway Station, and if so, how many days in advance can I buy the tickets?

Also, a friend told me that there are now only self-service ticket kiosks in the Shanghai Railway Station. Can I get train tickets for anywhere in China from those machines? E.g. can I get a Beijing - Xi'an train ticket from the ticket machine in the Shanghai Railway Station?

The Z- or D-train tickets between Shanghai and Beijing could be purchase 20 days in advance at the self-service machine of Shanghai Railway Station. The Z-train ticket from Beijing and Xian could also be purchase via the machine 20 days in advance.

ps: during the travel peak time, such as the coming summer vacation, it is suggested that you purchase the train tickets as early as possible. On the other hand, it is much easier to purchase a soft-sleeper ticket than a hard-sleeper.
