About:Chinese Embassy in Canada

Thanks for the speedy reply Simon.

I have a follow-up question regarding applying for a new temporary residence card. Will I require the landlord to be present? What forms or proof should I bring with me to the station. Any other tips or advice you can provide? Will I have to pay a fee or fine for losing my original permit? Thank you again for all your help. This site and your answers have been a Godsend.

Sincerely,

Jay B.

In accordance with relevant law and regulations of China, if you stay in a rented house or lodge at the home of a Chinese resident, you should, within 24 hours (72 hours in rural areas) of your arrival, report and register your accommodation at the local police station. Accommodation registration is not requested if you lodge at a hotel

The landlord had better go to the police station with you, you can take your original passport, the valid visa on your passport's visa pages. You shall write Residence Permit Application Form
