In Shanghai, you could find almost all of the dialects of China. For most local, they do speak local Shanghai dialect and mandarin. For peopel coming to Shanghai for working from other parts of China, they communicate in mandarin, but speak their own dialects, such as Beijing, Shaanxi and Zhejiang dislects, with friends. Hope this helps!
