About:Langfang Travel

I am looking for information on the origin of the name Langfang. I have read that Langfang is dated back 6000 years, but would like to have more detail. My married name is Langfang and we live in the US. There are no other documented Langfang's and I find myself at a stand still. Any information is appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Lori Langfang

PS- I was surprised to actually learn of Langfang, China!

Hello Ms Langfang,
It is said that the name came from the Houses of Lvqi in ancient China, he was the Bing Bu Shi Lang (as Under Secretary of Defense now), people in there called his house the "Lang Fang", which means "the house of Bing Bu Shi Lang", the name has then been kept. However, the modern Langfang is actually developed after the build of railway. The place was a small village in early 1800s.

In my humble opinion, Langfang, as a surname in America, and from its appearance, is most likely of German or Germanic origin. Lang = long and fang = catch or fang as in tooth. 'Fang' may have other meanings. By the way, I am teaching in Langfang, China, that's how I stumbled on your post.

Thank you both Mr. Bernard and Mr. King for your reply.
My husband's father was from a German decent, however, I could never get past his great-grandparents using a form of genealogy tree and wondered perhaps if during war they had immigrated.
I have yet to find anyone with this name outside of our immediate family and wondered if the name was possibly "made-up".

Kind regards,
Lori
