About:Beijing Subway

We will be flying into Beijing Capital International Airport and will have 3 pieces of wheeled luggage plus a backpack.

We plan to take the Airport Express Train to Dongzhimen Station and transfer to the subway Line 2. We would then take line 2 to Yonghegong Station and then transfer to Line 5 to Dengshikou Station, which is near our hotel. Would we have any problems getting our luggage on the subway trains? Are there elevators or escalators in each of these stations so we would not have to carry our luggage up or down stairways?

When we leave Beijing, we would start at Dengshikou Station and take Line 5 to Chongwenmen Station and then transfer to Line 2 to Xuanwumen Station and then transfer to Line 4 to Beijing South railway station. Would we have any problems getting our luggage on the subway trains? Are there elevators or escalators in each of these stations so we would not have to carry our luggage up or down stairways?

Thank you.

Hope your luggages is not so heavy. In terms of my experience last summer, the elevator and transfer station of Airport Express Train, Line 4 and Line 5 are easy, so you could do transit easily. However, since Line 2 and Line 1 were constructed many years ago, the transit facility is not very convenient and considerate. For example, when you transfer at Yonghegong, you have to up or down stairs on foot.

Another suggestion: it is suggested that you take Line 5 and then transfer to Line 1 at Dongdan, and then at Xidan station of Line 1, you could transfer to Line 4. Both of Dongdan and Xidan are equipped with flat elevators, much more comfortable than Chongwenmen and Xuanwumen.

Mr. Shan, thank you for the reply. When we come into Dongzhimen Station on the Airport Express, would it be better for us to transfer to line 2 at and take line 2 to Jianguomen Station and transfer to Line 1 and then take Line 1 to Dongdan Station and transfer to Line 5? In other words, do Dongzhimen Station, Jianguomen Station, and Dongdan stations all have flat elevators that we could roll our luggage onto? Thank you.

To be frank, Mr. Douglas, your method sounds more complicated. Actually, from Line 2 you could transfer to Line 5 at Yonghegong or Chongwenmen station. No need to use Line 1 at all. Both of Dongzhimen and Dongdan stations are convenient for transfer with elevator, but not sure about Jianguomen.

Anyway, please take easy that the steps are not so many within the transit station, so that you could lift luggages easily.
