About:Beijing Travel

Question, please help: How do we get from Shanghai to Beijing and back? I mean, is there a train/bus ride or do we really need to take the plane? How far are they from one another? Also, around how much will it cost per person (Shanghai-Beijing-Shanghai)? Thank you.
