About:Chinese Embassy in Vietnam

I am booked to fly from Washington to Hanoi via Beijing and Shanghai in mid-April (not the route I would choose, chosen for me)on a United Airlines/China Southern flight. The China Southern flights are transit flights BUT I am concerned that I need a visa and do not have one. I have seen other passengers denied boarding when transiting through China between Vietnam and the US and need to know if a visa is needed or not. Any ideas?

Mr.Peter, you need a visa to Mainland China because you will transit Beijing and Shanghai, you travel between Beijing and Shanghai. if you just transit one city and change your flight within the same airpirt for less than 24 hours and you don't leave the airport, then the visa is not required
