Originating from Hong Kong, we will be visiting Xianyang early May for two days and planning to see Beijing and Shanghai for about five days before heading back to Hong Kong. What kind of itinerary can you recommend with a modest budget to consider? Should we go from Xianyang to Beijing first before Shanghai? What about transport--will train be most economical? Would it be best to go with a guided tour or can we possibly go around on our own, book our own hotel, etc since family from Hong Kong who are coming with us can speak the Chinese language?
