Can I apply for the visa on arrival in advance?

Can I apply for the visa on arrival in advance? For example, I apply for it at the border on Thursday then go back to Hong Kong immediately, and then I enter Shenzhen on Saturday so that I have more time to go to WOW and Splendid China? Thanks

It is suggested that you apply for the visa on the spot at he border since the visa is valid in 5 days. It will be difficult to aplly for the visa during the holidays.
