Please take it easy Leefield! When your son arrives Shanghai Pudong Airport, he should follow the directs to the Maglev train platform and purchase a ticket on the spot. There are plenty of train tickets supplied.

Get off at Longyang Road, no need to exit from the train station, he will find the way to transfer to metro Line 2 easily. By this metro, he could get to the People's Square, where he could change to Line 1 easily. Tips: at Pudong Airport, every train or metro station, all of the signs are both in English and Chinese. So, he will not lose his way:)

When he arrives at Shanghai Railway Station, please follow the direction upstairs to the Ticket Hall, where the train could be purchased.

Thank you Mr Jamie - in your opinion is this the quickest way to get to Shanghai Train Station or would the airport shuttle be quicker?

I prefer to take the shuttle bus Line 5 which drives to the Shanghai Railway Station directly in one hour. You don't have to do transfer between metro with heavy luggage.
