About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Hi,
I will be travelling to Chengdu in September for 6 weeks. I understand that the single entry visa is for 3 months but the entry on the passport is only for 30 days. How do I go about in extending the visa?
Thank you.

Do you mean that you get a single entry tourist visa valid for 3 months and 30 days stay in China? You can apply for extension of your visa at the Chengdu Public Security Bureau when you arrive in China.

Hi Mr Jeff,
You mean I can apply for the extension on the visa straight away when I arrived at Chengdu or do I have to wait until my 30 days visa is near expiry date? What about if I happens to be in a small town in sichuan province when my visa expire? Where do I go about to apply for the extension?

Apply just before it expires, as once the new on is issued you lose however long was left on the old visa. If you're know you're definately only staying 6 weeks then you can apply after two week of being there and you'll get another 30 days.

You need to make sure you are in a town with a PSB Entry and Exit Bureau so plan ahead!

However depending what passport you're on, you can get a visa that entitles you to a stay of more than 30 days....costs more but might be worth it in the end if it is less trouble!
