About:Beijing Travel Tips

I am planning to go to Beijing for 4 days and Xi'an for 2 days with my husband in APril 2010. We are not planning to join any tours. I want to know where is the best location to stay in beijing? We want to stay somewhere that's clean, safe and convenience. We want to visit the Tianamen, summer palace, the great wall, Forbidden city, etc. How should I arrange my trip to fit all these sites.

Also, how is the weather in April, I heard there might have sand storm in April, is that likely to encounter that?

Thank you very much!

Mrs. Frances:
I suggest you live in the downtown area. Some economical hotel will be the best choice. The first day is Tiananmen, Forbidden City; the second day Summer Palace and Great Wall.
Yes,it will be sand storm at that time.

Thank you Kaye.

I never been in a sand storm. Is that safe to go there in the sand storm season? And usually how long will the storm last?

Don't be afraid about the sand storm. It is better now and it lasts two or three week.

Hey. Was Just browsing and came across your question.

I am an Australian living in Beijing (and have been for years!). I would totally recommend finding a hostel in the northern part of the old city, where the buildings are uniquely beijing. Downtown is WAY too generic. And there isn't really a downtown in Beijing anyway.
Any of the hotels off 'Jiu Gu Lou Da Jie' are a great place to start looking. And no, the sand storms here aren't really sandstorms. This year we had one day of a bit of dust blowing, nothing serious.

Enjoy!

Thanks Zac. Is the northern part of the town close to where I want to visit? Like The forbidden city, tiannanmen square, summer palace, etc? Do you recommend any night life sites?

Thanks,
Frances

Hi,Mrs.Frances

If you are just concern whether the hotels are neat&safe&convinient or not, My advice is that choosing some chinese economical chain hotels instead of the famous star ones. Usually they are neat and cheap, the average price is around 35 -60 US dollars. For instance,Rujia Hotel, there are several in Beijing, and most of them are close to the subway staions ( and most important, clean).

And, I'm afraid only one day for both Summer Palace and Great Wall is impossible!!! The Summer Palace is huge and I'm afraid one day even isn't enough for it!... Another problem is the distance between the summer Palace and Great Wall (for example,Ba Da ling Great Wall) is around than 50-80 km.

And, about the sand storm, you don't need worrying about it. April is almost the best time for travelling in Beijing.

Good Luck!
