I just returned from Lugu Lake with mixed impressions. I went by bus ( packaged tour). The road condition is not that bad but is very winding over 6 mountains! The view of Lugu Lake is beautiful but nothing to shout about if you have seen the lakes in Switzerland. Since the place is still not a popular tourist site because of the difficulty in getting there, you can enjoy the place without the hustle and bustle. I noticed that the locals are not very friendly, they do not smile much! The airport will be ready in about two years' time. Go there before the crowds start swarming in. And for those who are thinking of cycling there from Lijiang, my comment is  it's gonna kill you.

Oh, I 'm still alive after cycling from Lijiang via Yongsheng to Lugu. But indeed, it was hard and it took me 4 days. The people in the hotel (all women) were very friendly to me. The two daughters even accompagned me to the Mosuo show in the evening. But in the restaurants and bars in the small town of Mosuo Minsu they were not that friendly. Cycling around the lake (till Luguhu) took me about 2 and a half hours for 30 km. the road going up and down all the time. But the views were magnificant and after me this is still the best way to enjoy it.
