About:Beijing Great Wall

If we were to trek the Great Wall without a guide do you need to purchase any type of permit for camping along the way? Is it safe and has anyone got any info or experience in Trekking it on your own?

In repaired wall section such as Badaling, a guide is not very necessary if you have already known the background history before. But in wild section, I think you'd better hire a local villager to guide your way, because the wild wall has many dangerous parts and you will easily get lost in the mountains.
