About:Xian Xianyang International Airport

Warning to Xian travellers from the airport.
We arrived in Xian last week and took the airport shuttle to Bell Tower. Once we got off the shuttle, we found that no taxi drivers were willing to use the meter and their quote from Bell Tower to IBIS hotel ( less than 2 km) was RMB50 per taxi. FYI, we look Chinese and speak the language too.
When we enquired around, a lady took us across the other side of the road and put us on a bus, with instructions to get off at the 3rd stop. IBIS was right across the road and it cost only RMB1 per pax.
We also had chats with the other foreigners who had similar bad experiences. It's daylight robbery from these taxi drivers and give a poor impression on Xian.
We were in Dalian for 1 wk before Xian, and had no problems at all with metered taxis.

Thanks for posting this and letting us know of your experience.

We will make sure we don't use the taxis within Xi'an.

Tom - it's true every city will have bad characters. But Ms Khaw is not 'shaming' anyone by letting other travellers know the pitfalls and sharing her experience.
