For wars. They built it to defend themselves from being invaded by the northern nomadic tribes.

The Qin dynasty were worried that invaders from the north would come unexpected to distroy the dynasty so the qins dicided to build this great wall still known and standing very high and proud

They built it to protect them selves from Native troops up in Asia but by the time the wall was done all the natives were gone so really not much. If you ask your social studies teacher they might know more detail than me :).
