Our friends told us that going to namtso lake would take 5-6 hr drive. She said that she recommends changing itinerary to Yamtso lake because it is closer and just as pretty. Right?

You are right that one-way transfer to Namtso Lake takes about 5 hours. Yamdrok Lake is nearer and it takes 2-3 hours to go there. If you would like to visit Yamdrok Lake instead, more than one half of a day is enough. Namtso Lake is most notable holy lake in Tibet and the second largest saltwater in China. Yamdrok Lake is also one of the three holy lakes in Tibet and it is smaller than Namtso Lake.
