About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I am a US citizen who is currently in Japan on a tourist visa. I would like to got to china next week to stay with a friend.
I saw that a hotel reservation is necessary to get the visa. Would my friends address be sufficient, or do I need a hotel.
Also, I fly on an airline family buddy pass standby ticket. It does not have confirmed dates. Do I need to show proof of having a ticket. Will a printed itenarary suffice.

Do I need a passport photo for the visa?

Is there anything else I need to supply in order to get the visa?
thanks in advance

If you will stay with your friend, your friend's invitation letter will be ok, rather than the hotel booking.
Proof of air ticke, printed itinerary, copy and original passort are all necessary.
Meanwhile, you also need a truly and completely filled application form affixed with one passport-sized photo.
