How long does it take to see Great wall of China and come back to Beijing. Need to book a room for one night? how expensive is it?

It takes at least a half day to visit Great Wall of China (suggest it is Badaling Great Wall). Where will you book a room? In Beijing, or around Badaling? Around Badaling, there are many houses and it probably charges CNY 60 for a room for one night, not very expensive.
