About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I am an American citizen. I am going to be in Rome for only 3 days and I would like to get a tourist visa since I will be going to China in october. Is it possible to get the visa the same day, or the following working day? (I realize I would have to pay for the expedited service).

Aslo, do I need to make an appointment or I just go directly with my documents?
