Have an idea to visit Great Wall (Simatai section). Is it safe and how much time it usually takes?

As Simatai Great Wall is very far from the city, it needs a whole day to visit. This part of Great Wall is ruined and weathered seriously, considering your safety, you'd better walk around in the better-preserved places and no hiking or trekking on it. Also, no good restaurants can be founded nearby and you need to bring your own lunch box instead. Why not visit the Mutianyu Great Wall? Less crowded section than Badaling, but well preserved and good facility equipped.

for rustic climbing, and out in the open with practically no facilities. I love Sima Tai. its quiet and it has hardly any people on it.

the others are good too but this one rocks.

its a bit hard to reach though. A private car usually is best for you can have comfort and ease .

after going there, climbing up and down , you may enjoy a private car more than just getting a bus back into the city.

buses are difficult to find and filled with people once they start picking up people along the way.
