Daoism was frequently supported by the Imperial family in public, as Daoism was considered the natural religion of China. Buddhism was considered a foreign religion, as it had spread from India, however it was extremely popular, especially among commoners and many members of the Imperial family followed its teachings. Confucianism was also around during the Tang, although it was during the following dynasty (The Song) that Confucianism grew powerful and became Neo-Confucianism.
