What's documents or supporting items needed when I'm going to apply tourist VISA to China?

From the details in this website, we only need to provide valid passport and fill up CHINA VISA application form. Do I need to make booking for hotel and air ticket prior to the VISA application?

If the hotel booking and round-trip air ticket are also provided for application, then you have a good chance of getting a China L visa.
