Loess means yellow earth, the yellow rivers flows through the loessial highland and carries the yellow earth, this is why it is called "Yellow River".

silt is something that the nile ,tigrus ,euphrates ,indus ,and huang he river carrie throughout the river and loess is all of the sand that is around china
