About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

I wish to study chinese in China with a private tutor for at least six months. Is it possible to receive a 6-9 month visa before I enter the country? If not how easy is it to extend a tourist visa? Thank you.

A private tutor? It is not easy for you to get either an F visa or X visa. You are very likely to obtain a tourist L visa and extend your duration of stay (apply for a residential permit).
