About:China Train

I want to travel from Shanghai all the way to Chengdu. With the damage from the earthquake is that possible? Does anybody know about the conditions of rail systems in Sichuan? Should I just fly, or even (gulp) go as far as I can by tain than shift to bus?

Digressing from the possiblity of damage or loss of rail systems in Sichuan for a moment, how long will it take and how should I go to Chengdu from Shanghai by train? Obviously I`ll have to change lines a couple of times.

Some research gave me:
Shanghai -> Xuzhou (Jinghu line)
Xuzhou -> Baoji (Longhai)
Baoji -> Chengdu (Baocheng)

Looking at 2 days travel. Is there a faster way?

From Shanghai there are 4 trains a day to Chengdu, the fastest takes nearly 35 hours. (K290. Depart Shanghai at 09:07, arrive at Chengdu at 19:47 the next day). Hope this can help you a bit.
