If you want to visit Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and its capital Shangri-La, you would have to obtain a Chinese tourist visa in advance. If you hold a Chinese tourist visa obtained in advance you can freely visit Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and its capital Shangri-La on your own, by taking a train or plane to reach it.
