I suggest you give two days in the two cities.
Two days itinerary in Hangzhou:
Day 1: West Lake exploration. You can't miss Lingering Snow on the Broken Bridge in Winter, Viewing Fish at Flower Pond, Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, Su Di and Leifeng Pagoda
Day 2: Lingyin Temple - Faxi Temple - Hangzhou Musuem - Qinghefang Ancient Street

Two days in Xi'an
Day 1: Terrocotta Army + Huaqing Palace with the performance A Song of Everlasting Sorrow
Day 2: Shaaxi History Museum + Giant Wild Goose Pagoda.

Note to reserve the ticket for Terrocotta Army and the performance 7 days in advance

The high speed train from Hangzhou to Xi'an takes about 8-9 hours, almost a whole day.
