The first and probably the most important detail is the fact that the citizens of Spain can enter China absolutely visa free for up to 30 days. In other words, they should not bother themselves about 24/240 and similar stuff. When a Spaniard is traveling to China this is practically the same as if going to UK.

It is, however, true that visa waiver scheme will expire on December 31 of this year, but the general consensus is that China will extend this visa waiver for many EU countries, Spain included, for another year.

In case, although not probable, but let's say that visa waiver extension does not happen, your itinerary would be definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit. However, here I have to put the emphasize on several details:
- You can travel from Hong Kong to Guangzhou by plane or even better by ferry from China Ferry Terminal located in Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood (southern part of Kowloon) to Nansha port that is located south from Guangzhou and connected to it by metro line 4. Taking a train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou is not eligible if traveling on 240 hour visa free transit.
- Your flight from Shanghai to Madrid is not allowed to have any kind of landing in Hong Kong
- You will have to buy your Shanghai to Madrid (exit ticket) even before you depart from Hong Kong to Guangzhou because you will be asked to present one in both Hong Kong and in Nasha (Guangzhou) upon your arrival there. Have it as a printout or as a screenshot on your mobile phone.
- You can travel between Guangzhou and Shanghai by plane or train. Decision about it will depend on your decision only.
- You are advised to use correct terminology in order to avoid any possible misunderstandings because it is not 240 hrs free visa, but 240 hour visa free transit or in other words, there is no visa of any kind at all.

Have a nice visit to China.
