About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, I am an US citizen. Do I qualify for (2) 240 hrs visa free transit?

Cruise Singapore to Hong Kong on 11/16. I am proposing to leave Hong Kong via china ferry terminal to Namsha port on 11/19. Then taking a flight from Shenzhen International airport to Tokyo on 11/26. Tour of Japan. Then on 12/3 flight from Osaka to Shenzhen international airport. Leaving from Guangzhou or Shanghai to Hong Kong then back to US on 12/8 or 12/12. Is this acceptable under the 240 hour visa free transit?

Yes, your entire itinerary is definitely and without any doubt eligible for 2 x 240 hour visa free transit.

Here are very important details to have in mind:
- It is definitely eligible to take a ferry from China Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong to Nansha (located south from Guangzhou and connected by it by metro line number 4). However, if you plan to visit Shenzhen and not Guangzhou, then a better solution would be to take a ferry from Macau Ferry Terminal to Shekou port because Shekou is located in Shenzhen. OK, this is something you will decide based on your travel plans and preferences.
- It is essential to have your flight ticket to Japan bought even before you depart from Hong Kong toward Shenzhen because you will be asked to present it in both Hong Kong and in Nansha/Shekou when you arrive there.
- Your second visit is also fine, but again, if you plan to depart toward Hong Kong from Shanghai (did you mean to mention Shenzhen instead of Shanghai?) you will have to buy your flight ticket even before you depart from Japan. If returning to Hong Kong from Guangzhou or Shenzhen, in that case you will buy a train ticket from Guangzhou or Shenzhen to Hong Kong West Kowloon train statin even before you depart from Japan. Again, you will be asked to present it in both Japan and upon landing in Shenzhen.
- It is essential to have an exit ticket from mainland China even before you depart toward it. It is highly advisable to have that ticket printed out to expedite the procedures or at least as a screenshot on your smartphone.

Have a wonderful journey.
