About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hour entry permit

Hi I am an Egyptian citizen who is travelling from Egypt to Australia and transiting in Shanghai for 15 hours and I was wondering if I can exit to see the city and return back. I have read that I need to apply for permit upon arrival at shanghai airport not beforehand is that correct ? Do I need to have hotel booking for the entry permit? My ticket is one way and the route is In my Case Cairo - shanghai- melbourne so country A is Egypt and Country C is Australia right? thank you so much and I appreciate your help

The first and the most important detail is that you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa as far as China is concerned. Yes, you will have to apply for a temporary entry permit upon landing in Shanghai and not beforehand. You do not need a hotel booking, although hotel booking helps somewhat. In any case, you will do the following... At the time of your check-in in Cairo you will declare that you are traveling to Australia via China under 24 hour visa free transit. After a short check you will receive your boarding passes. Upon landing in Shanghai the first thing that you will do is to fill out an arrival card. On the card you will tick the box - transit. After that you will perform fingerprinting at automatic fingerprinting machine. When you are done with that you will proceed to 24/240 hour visa free transit where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets (have them as printout or at least as screenshot), arrival card and fingerprinting receipt. This is all free of charge. After a short check you will be granted a permit and then you will head to the immigration and to the city to enjoy your time on your own.
