About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Enter Shenzheng visa free from HK

As a Canadian touring Hong Kong for 4 weeks, can I enter Shenzheng by land, say Futian, and tour the Greater Bay Area for a few days before flying out from Guangzhou by air to Taipei, without a visa, using the 144 or 240 hours exemption. After a brief stay in Taipei, I plan to fly to Hong Kong before returning to Canada.

Based on your information, I would suggest you to use 240 hour visa free transit that will allow you a visit to the Greater Bay Area visa free and also to fly out from Guangzhou to Taipei. You are allowed to stay for up to 10 days within mainland China. Just do the following and you will be able to do everything absolutely visa free:

1. Take a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou in Shenzhen. Shekou port is an eligible port of entry into mainland China when traveling under 240 hour visa free transit. Any other option is not eligible.

2. You can stay/explore the Greater Bay Area as you wish. Just to inform you that you are not limited to just Greater Bay Area.

3. Take a nonstop flight from Guangzhou to Taipei. Please, have in mind that you should have your Guangzhou to Taipei ticket booked even before you depart from Hong Kong because you will be asked to present one both in Hong Kong at the time of your boarding the ferry and upon your arrival in Shekou. Exactly this ticket will be a proof that you will be in a formal transit between Hong Kong and Taiwan via mainland China. It is highly advisable to have that ticket printed out or at least as a screenshot. This is the essence of 240 hour visa free transit scheme.

The segment after Taipei is not of a concern to the mainland Chinese immigration authorities.
