About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa-free transit for less than 24 hours

Hello,

I'm Tunisian and I'm traveling to Japan for a short stay. I live in Germany with a German residence permit. For my return flight, I have a layover at Shanghai Pudong Airport for about 8 hours. I'm worried that a Chinese visa may be required.
I'm staying in the international zone.

Thank you in advance.

You do not need any kind of visa because your itinerary (your transit in Shanghai) will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. Since you have mentioned that you plan to remain airside (in the transit area of the airport and without leaving it), you do not need to perform any formality and you do not need to to fill out any forms. Also, you will not be a subject of immigration or customs control. All you will do is to walk from one to the other gate and on that way you will encounter a security check (metal detector and the stuff). You will spend your time within the transit area and by resting in the place you choose there. It really could not be simpler than it is. Have a nice journey.
