About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, I hold a Cambodian passport and is planning to travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from Phnom Penh. I am planning to purchase 2 separate tickets from 2 different airlines. One return ticket between Phnom Penh and Guangzhou and anther return ticket between Guangzhou and Bishkek. This ticket requires me to go through the immigration check and recheck my baggage. In this case, do I need a transit visa if my time at Guangzhou Baiyun will be under 24 hours? If not, do I need to apply for any temporary permit to go through the immigration? Your prompt response would be much appreciated.

Part 1:

Lina, having in mind the fact that there is no direct flight connection between Guangzhou and Bishkek, I assume that you will have additional landings within mainland China. This is fine, but you have to understand that additional landings will increase your total transit time in China. So, for your information, total transit time is counted from your first scheduled landing in China until your final scheduled departure from China. In other words, if your final departure is from Beijing, the time will be counted from your scheduled landing in Guangzhou until your final scheduled departure from Beijing. This is very important because the time calculated in this way cannot exceed 24 hours even for a minute. When you are aware of this, you will easily calculate your transit time going to Bishek and returning to Phnom Penh. In general, your intention is eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Of course, if your total transit time is shorter than 24 hours. So, if your total transit time is shorter than 24 hours here is what will you do in the exact sequence. When you perform check-in in Cambodia you will declare that you are flying to Bishkek via Ch under 24 hour visa free transit. In that moment you will present your flight tickets to the check-in staff. After a short check, you will be allowed to board Guangzhou bound plane. Upon your landing in Guangzhou the first thing that you will do will be to fill out arrival card because you will have to collect & re-check your luggage and for this reason, you will simply have to formally enter China. You will tick the box on the arrival card where it is written - transit. After that you will perform automatic fingerprinting. With a filled out arrival card and a fingerprinting receipt you will approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and along with arrival card and fingerprinting receipt.

Part 2:

This is all free of any charge. After a short check you will be granted a permit and then you will cross the immigration and head to collect your luggage. When you are done with that, you will head to the check-in to re-check your luggage for the second leg of your journey. The most important detail is that you do not need a visa because your journey will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. When returning back to Cambodia, you will do exactly the same, but if your first landing after Bishkek is not Guangzhou, you will perform all the necessary formalities that I have described in my part 1 post in the first airport/city of landing within China. Have a nice journey.
